Passive or active tags?

 

Today two kinds of tags are commonly used: passive tags and active tags.

Passive Tags

Active Tags

- No internal power source- Use batteries as a partial or complete source of power
- Externally powered and derive their power from the carrier signal radiated from the scanner.- Two kinds of batteries: replaceable batteries or batteries inside a sealed unit (unitized active tags).
- Hold a minimum amount of data and have a shorter “read” range.Hold more data and have a longer “read” range.
- Virtually unlimited life
